BIO

Dr. Mayoorey Murugathasan is an accomplished researcher, educator, and community leader who earned her Ph.D. in Immunology from York University. Her academic history involves sophisticated studies in biochemistry, molecular biology, and microbiology, equipping her with a rigorous, evidence-based approach to problem-solving. Outside of the laboratory, she is deeply devoted to public service and the creation of inclusive spaces where every individual has the opportunity to succeed.


Over the course of her career, Mayoorey has seamlessly integrated her professional expertise with a heartfelt commitment to volunteerism. As a faculty member for the Art of Living Foundation, she has spearheaded mental health initiatives and wellness workshops, teaching residents practical, science-backed breathing techniques to effectively navigate stress. Her dedication is further evidenced by her involvement in programs that uplift families and youth, rooted in the firm belief that healthy societal change begins with the empowerment of the next generation.


By blending her scientific background with compassionate leadership, Mayoorey aims to drive meaningful progress in the educational sector. She is dedicated to closing achievement gaps, prioritizing student mental health, and ensuring equitable access to resources for all learners. Her ultimate mission is to motivate students to pursue both excellence and integrity, preparing them to be conscientious, empathetic citizens who can lead with confidence in a complex and rapidly changing global landscape.

"My goal is to help ensure every DDSB student has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I will advocate for strong STEM education, student wellbeing, student mental health and wellbeing, meaningful family engagement, building stronger connections between K–12 education and post-secondary opportunities, supporting evidence-based decision-making at the board level, responsible stewardship of resources, and pathways that prepare students for success in a rapidly changing world."

  • Champion mental health resources and mental health education programs. 

  • Encourage healthy school environments that foster belonging and resilience. 

  • Support anti-bullying and student safety initiatives.

3. Enhance Parent and Community Engagement

  • Improve communication between schools, families, and the board. 

  • Create more opportunities for meaningful input from parents and the community.
